To kick off the first of my "new" blog entries, I decided to start with a well publicized personal obsession - shoes. Serious Shoe Love will be a series chronicling my top picks from a variety of different brands and designers. I'll mostly stick to affordable price-points, though I imagine some ultra-luxe styles will find there way in every now and then. While there's no harm in knowing what loveliness designers are up to, I want the majority of these shoes to be within reach for most people. That way, if you spot a pair you love, you can actually buy them! Some of my favorite fresh for spring pumps from BCBGeneration... With so many great things happening recently (and several more opportunities on the horizon) I've put some thought into re-doing my blog for a more user-friendly experience. For one thing, less words, more pictures. I have a tendency to write a lot. Always something to say. But I'm also super visual and prefer photo blogs myself. Pictures are gold. Next, enter my plans for a more systematic approach. Although it's easy to blog about whatever strikes my fancy, I don't love the seemingly random nature of my blog as it is. Hence, expect a Style Me Senseless revamp starting ASAP. Hope you guys love the new style as much as I hope I will :) Feel free to comment with thoughts! *Image courtesy of herveleger.com
It's official. My super-exciting news - I've been selected by Urban Darling to represent them as one of two (kick-butt) personal stylists serving all of Los Angeles :)The Urban Darling family couldn't be more welcoming and I can't wait to get my style on. Don't you love their too true words of wisdom regarding closet clean-outs? A fresh perspective on style is potentially life changing - don't doubt it! This past Sunday I had the pleasure of attending a fashion/beauty/spa event at the lovely Amelie boutique in Claremont, CA. For those of you who don't know, Claremont is a picturesque suburb of Los Angeles, nestled at the base of the San Bernardino mountains. The town itself is artsy and eclectic, and Amelie is my hands down favorite Claremont shop. Stocking brands like BB Dakota, Dolce Vita, and Parker among other more elusive names, there's nothing else like it in the local area. They have a unique selection of accessories and candles to boot. I've been shopping there for years, and I was thrilled when the owner invited me to hang out and give complementary style consultations for their annual "Girlfriend Party". It was a great event, complete with champagne and h'orderves, free mini-massages, and 20% off the entire store. As the stylist on hand, I consulted with shoppers and offered my advice on some of the top trends and best values straight from the racks. Pictured above, you can see their lovely merchandising of the spring/summer black and white trend. Also, shoes galore (lots of jellies). And the printed, textured, global gypset trend peaking out on the left. And I couldn't help but scoop up this fabulous, sparkly, boho head-wrap for only $13!Recently, I had to write a bio/personal statement in relation to a very exciting new styling venture which I'll post more about soon! In the meantime, I love the statement so much I wanted to share it with everyone here. I truly believe that finding and embracing your unique style is priceless. It's absolutely empowering, not to mention that once you understand style, the process is infinitely enjoyable. My undeniable love for fashion developed at an early age - largely the influence of my mother and grandmother, who are both to this day very stylish women. I do also believe the inclination was innate within me. When I was young, I would sit at the dinner table and sketch for hours. Always women in elaborate outfits, straight from my imagination. There’s a home video of me at the age of seven…My dad is holding me and he asks, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” I answer coyly but without hesitation, “I want to be a clothing designer.”
Though I’ve not yet entered the realm of design, I believe style itself is a form of design. Individual garments are one thing, but the way you put them together (and accessorize) that’s something unique and different. You either tend to have a knack for it, or you don’t. It’s a very creative process. But that’s not to say it can’t be taught! That’s what I love about personal styling. I love to teach all the tricks and tips - color pairings, print mixing, layering, the value of a waist belt, the importance of statement jewelry…the list goes on and on. I also think it’s vital to know what’s best for your body type. Different bodies favor different fabrics, silhouettes, etc. For example, I’m exactly five feet tall on the dot - way petite! I haven’t always loved being so short, but over the years I’ve come to embrace it, because I’ve learned to master my petite frame. I know exactly what works for my body and what doesn’t, and I keep a tailor close at hand. Of course I’m not solely skilled with dressing petite women, as a stylist I can help you overcome challenges and highlight assets, whatever they may be. As a woman, I believe that understanding fashion and pinpointing your personal style is an invaluable part of feeling fulfilled and being the best you can be. Sooo I'm super excited to announce my new partnership with Fitness Magazine! They contacted me out of the blue a few weeks back explaining they were seeking a Los Angeles based personal stylist whom they felt confident recommending to their readers. Apparently, a lot of women get in shape then don't know how to dress for their new bodies...makes sense to me! After getting all the facts on my business, the magazine invited me on board, and I of course accepted. Now you can see the lovely little endorsement (above) splashed all over fitnessmagazine.com. How cool right? I can't wait to start working with women who need "new body" style advice...I'm armed and ready with all the tips to help highlight their fab new physiques. Now great style is another incentive to help you keep that "get fit" resolution!
A quick note to say Happy Christmas! Somehow this time of year always seems to fly by and and I can't believe it's Christmas already. I'm headed off to a big dinner party tomorrow night, and whatever your plans may be (even if you don't have any at all) I thought I'd share this wear-anywhere holiday sweater look. Pair your own sweater with black coated skinnies, sleek booties, and a festive, dangling necklace for an outfit that's simple yet stylish. Voila! Best wishes for a joyful holiday :)
The Look...This past week, I had the pleasure of attending my boyfriend's holiday dinner with colleagues. The dinner took place in a private party room at popular local Italian restaurant. It was the first professional dinner I've attended on my bf's side and of course I wanted to look stylish without looking over (or under) dressed. The weather has finally turned cold here, especially at night, so I opted to pile on the layers in a body-con sweater dress with tights and a deconstructed boucle jacket. To keep it interesting and avoid looking stuffy, I punched up the look with some choice accessories. Jewelry, shoes, and other accessories can often make or break an outfit. If I would have gone with black boots as my bf suggested, this look would have been a bit boring for my taste. With super sleek leopard booties and some edgy jewelry, I felt perfectly put together. And while most people showed up in jeans, I felt way confident and grown-up in this stand-out ensemble. The Accessories...1. BaubleBar Astro Druzy Strand, sold out, similar style for $32.
2. JewelMint Raven Talon Ring, current special - three rings for $29.99. 3. ShoeDazzle Kolfinna Bootie, 40% off for one week only, regular price $39.95. The Shoe...The Style...Fashion happens so fast these days. The industry is in constant motion and there's always something new to lust after. Prime example - spring shoes are already starting to pop up in stores and online...and it's mid-December. Seriously, So Cal only just cooled down to allow for some winter weather. But the allure of spring is undeniable. As much as I pore over boots and outerwear as soon as that September issue hits stands, springtime fashions are my hands-down fave. I love bright colors and the promise of warm weather ahead. And when it comes to shoes, high-heeled sandals are a personal wardrobe staple. Unique styles especially catch my eye. So when I spotted this particular new release from Jessica Simpson, I knew I'd have to have her. The "Thunder" platform boasts an awesome architectural cut-out wedge and vibrant green suede straps. Though I can't wait to wear this sandal bare-legged come spring, I'm all about utility and versatility. Something about the pop of black patent in the wedge combined with the richness of suede makes it possible to pair this shoe with a fabulous winter ensemble like the one pictured above. And black tights with bright shoes is a definite fashion "do", so don't feel funny wearing tights with these sandals, I guarantee it can be done! Of course I couldn't help but throw in my idea for a fun, flirty look to try once the weather starts to heat up again...true Cali girl here :) If you love "Thunder" as much as I do, you can find her online at Macy's or Nordstrom for about $119.
I just can't help myself...behold another Sole Society post! What can I say? I absolutely love shoes. They make me so very happy. Hence, I was super stoked today when SS announced their holiday sale. 33% off a large selection of styles. And lucky me, three of my favorite styles (pictured above) are included in the sale. Gabrielle in grey, Calypso in cobalt, and Miley in brule. That's three fabulous pairs of shoes for just over $100. How can you go wrong? Treat yourself today and have them in time for New Year's Eve.
